Better You

Better. You. I am talking to you, all of you over 50-ish women who are starting to feel the pinch of invisibility that often comes with age. It’s that feeling you get when you give an answer, or express an opinion, only to have it easily dismissed–or worse, not heard at all.

Clearing the Way for a Better You

How do you stay relevant? How do you firmly lift yourself up and place yourself squarely in the face of those you wish to be seen by? How do you get to a better you? What are we talking about here?

We are talking about making damn sure that the balance of our lives is not wasted, minimized, or quietly swept away by time, aches, pains, and lack of direction. We are talking about the next phase of living our speck of time on this planet in ways that make us want to get out of bed in the morning. It doesn’t matter how old you are. It is never too late to find what brings you joy in this world.

What. Do. You. Want.

Less self doubt? More purpose? Better relationships? Less anxiety?  Here’s what my she-ro, Brené Brown, has to say about it:

I think midlife is when the universe gently places her hands upon your shoulders, pulls you close, and whispers in your ear:
I’m not screwing around. It’s time. All of this pretending and performing – these coping mechanisms that you’ve developed to protect yourself from feeling inadequate and getting hurt – has to go.Your armor is preventing you from growing into your gifts. I understand that you needed these protections when you were small. I understand that you believed your armor could help you secure all of the things you needed to feel worthy of love and belonging, but you’re still searching and you’re more lost than ever. Time is growing short. There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.
