Quite simply put, without it we die, right down to the molecular level. For example, here is what happens in the brain of a person with Alzheimer’s disease, quoted from the book Still Alice by Lisa Genova:
“The well-being of a neuron depends on its ability to communicate with other neurons…..Neurons unable to connect effectively with other neurons atrophy. Useless, an abandoned neuron will die.” (P. 174)
So how do you stay connected? Your pets? (Isn’t he sweet?) Your friends? Your family? Your church?Your art? Your community?
However this occurs for you, know that connection is crucially important to your good mental and physical well being.
